Archipelagos, raising the unseen stories
Archipelagos was born from the need to safeguard, develop and promote linguistic and cultural diversity within the translated literature market across Europe. Literatures written in European languages other than English are in the minority, and the part played by literary translators in their discovery often remains invisible. Funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, Archipelagos brings together 12 partners who share a common objective: expanding literary routes in Europe, and raising its unseen stories.
Archipelagos és un projecte de tres anys finançat per la Unió Europea que es va posar en marxa el gener del 2024. Està liderat per ATLAS a França i compta amb el suport d’11 socis europeus. La seva ambició és treure a la llum la diversitat de veus literàries a Europa tot donant suport als traductors literaris per descobrir noves històries en s llengües minoritàries. Una part poc coneguda de la seva feina consisteix a trobar noves veus per traduir. Mitjançant el finançament de residències al voltant d’aquesta activitat, Arxipelagos vol reconèixer aquesta tasca. Més de 100 traductors rebran suport en la seva recerca i 10 tallers reuniran més de 150 col·legues que treballen amb 10 idiomes bàsics en totes les combinacions amb altres idiomes europeus. El projecte també pretén augmentar la demanda. Als seminaris web i als esdeveniments es lliuraran als professionals de la cadena de llibres. Els esdeveniments públics floriran a tot Europa i donaran al públic l’oportunitat d’escoltar aquests exploradors literaris i descobrir els tresors que han trobat.
Main Partners
Led by ATLAS in France, the Archipelagos project has eight main partners from seven countries in Europe, working in ten languages. They have chosen to join forces to support literary translators unearth new voices and to share these with book chain professionals and the public.
ATLAS
Par le biais de ses multiples actions – festivals, résidences de traduction, rencontres littéraires, formations, ateliers... – ATLAS, association pour la promotion de la traduction littéraire basée à Arles, s’emploie depuis 40 ans à valoriser le rôle essentiel des traductrices et traducteurs littéraires dans la diffusion des œuvres et des idées. Ses activités s’articulent autour de trois grandes missions : soutenir le travail des traductrices et traducteurs littéraires, développer la formation continue et les échanges professionnels, et sensibiliser les publics aux enjeux et à la pratique de la traduction littéraire.
ATLAS
ATLAS is a cultural non-profit organisation, based in Arles and Paris (FR) and promoting literary translation since 1983. Its goal is to promote, to highlight and to support literary translators through events, translation workshops, bursaries, training programs, and literary translation prizes. ATLAS also works actively towards the development of a national and international community of translators and hosts literary translators all year long in its one-of-a-kind residency in Arles : the Collège International des Traducteurs Littéraires (CITL).
Czechlit
CzechLit (České literární centrum) bylo zřízeno Moravskou zemskou knihovnou v Brně z pověření Ministerstva kultury ČR. Cílí na propagaci české literatury prostřednictvím spolupráce s literárními agenturami, nakladateli a zahraničními kulturními organizacemi. Pořádá a spolupořádá literární akce a funguje jako informační a kulturní centrum pro literární odborníky a knižní profesionály.
Czechlit
CzechLit (Czech Literary Centre) is a state funded organisation based in Prague. Focuses on promoting Czech literature abroad through cooperating with literary agencies, publishers and cultural organisations abroad, organising literary events, and acting as an informational and cultural centre for literary experts and professionals. The centre is a section of the Moravian Library in Brno.
Kolegium Europy Wschodniej
Kolegium Europy Wschodniej im. Jana Nowaka-Jeziorańskiego we Wrocławiu (KEW) powstało w 2001 roku jako niezależna fundacja, która promuje wiedzę na temat spraw międzynarodowych. Nasza działalność to wydawanie czasopism New Eastern Europe i Nowa Europa Wschodnia oraz kilkunastu książek literackich i naukowych rocznie. KEW jest również think tankiem i forum wymiany opinii dla intelektualistów i decydentów. Siedziba fundacji w zamku na wodzie w Wojnowicach służy naszym celom, a jej wielokulturowa historia przypomina o europejskim tyglu kultury. Od lat nasza siedziba przyjmuje autorów, tłumaczy i badaczy literatury w ramach rezydencji, stypendiów, seminariów i programów naukowych.
Kolegium Europy Wschodniej
The Jan Nowak-Jeziorański College of Eastern Europe (Kolegium Europy Wschodniej) was founded in February 2001 by Jan Nowak-Jeziorański, a democratic activist, the legendary "Courier from Warsaw",. The College of Eastern Europe is a non-profit, non-partisan organization. Our activities include publishing the magazines New Eastern Europe and New Eastern Europe, as well as a dozen literary and scholarly books each year. The foundation's headquarters in the castle in Wojnowice serves our purposes. Its multicultural history is a reminder of Europe's cultural melting pot. For years, our headquarters has welcomed authors, translators and literary scholars for residencies, fellowships, seminars and research programs.

Основана през 2001 г., фондация „Следваща страница“ работи за насърчаване на международната литературна комуникация като подкрепя овластяването на непривилегированите групи, езици и държави за равноправно участие в глобалния диалог на идеи и като развива културни програми и проекти в областта на книгата, четенето и преводите. Founded in 2001, Next Page Foundation aims to encourage international literature communication by supporting the empowerment of underprivileged groups, languages and countries for equal participation in the global dialogue of ideas and by developing cultural programs and projects in the field of books, reading and translations. In 2014 the foundation launched Sofia Literature and Translation House. The House develops professional qualification programs for Bulgarian literary translators and offers residency facilities to internationals working in the book field: translators of Bulgarian literature, writers, editors, agents, literary managers. At the House's premises, the Next Page Foundation and partner organizations offer a variety of public discussions, book launches, workshops for children and the youth, readers clubs.
ACE Traductores
ACE Traductores se constituyó en 1983 con el fin primordial de defender los intereses y los derechos jurídicos, patrimoniales o de cualquier otro tipo de los traductores de libros, así como a promocionar todas aquellas actividades e iniciativas que pudieran contribuir a la mejora de la situación social y profesional de los traductores, al debate y la reflexión sobre la traducción y al reconocimiento de la importancia cultural de la figura del traductor.
ACE Traductores
ACE Traductores was created in 1983 to defend the interests and the rights of literary translators, and to promote the work of translators in order to contribute to the improvement of their social and professional situation. They also participate in the wider debate and reflection on translation and the recognition of the importance of the translator’s cultural figure.
IReMMO
L’iReMMO (Institut de recherche et d’études Méditerranée Moyen-Orient) est un institut français indépendant basé à Paris. L’iReMMO œuvre et s’engage à rendre accessible au plus grand nombre un savoir scientifique engagé sur les grandes problématiques politiques, culturelles, économiques et sociales liées aux régions du Moyen-Orient et du bassin méditerranéen.

iReMMO is a French independent, specialized think tank based in Paris. The institute contributes to critical analysis, knowledge dissemination and education on broad political, cultural, economic and social issues related to the Middle East, the Mediterranean basin and the Arab world.
Literarisches Colloquium Berlin
Das Literarische Colloquium Berlin (LCB) ist Veranstaltungsforum und Gästehaus, Arbeitsplatz und Talentschmiede für Autoren und Übersetzer und Gründungsort des Deutschen Übersetzerfonds. Öffentliche Veranstaltungen, Workshops für Autoren und Übersetzer und das Gästehaus für Stipendiaten aus aller Welt machen das LCB zu einem Ort lebendiger literarischer Aktivität und des Austauschs.
Literarisches Colloquium Berlin
Literarisches Colloquium Berlin (LCB) is an event forum and guest house, a workplace and talent incubator for authors and translators, and the founding location of the German Translators' Fund. Public events, workshops for authors and translators and the guest house for fellows from all over the world make the LCB a place of vivid literary activity and exchange.

Український інститут книги - державна установа при Міністерстві культури та інформаційної політики України, покликана формувати державну політику у книжковій галузі, провадити промоцію книгочитання в Україні, підтримувати книговидавничу справу, стимулювати перекладацьку діяльність, популяризувати українську літературу за кордоном.

Ukrainian Book Institute
The Ukrainian Book Institute is a government entity, part of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine. Its mission is to shape state policy in the area of book publishing, promote book reading in Ukraine, support book industry, provide incentives for translations and popularize Ukrainian literature abroad.
Despite the challenges of a full-scale war, we direct all our efforts to the realization of the set goals and tasks. Our steadfast commitment to the cause is based on the belief that even in turbulent times, the importance of books and culture in general cannot be underestimated. Our activity is evidence of the unchanging power of literature in the face of difficulties.

Co-funded by the Creative Europe programme
Archipelagos is co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. Creative Europe supports the translation, publication, distribution and promotion of works of fiction. The funding scheme “circulation of European literary works” supports on average 40 projects per year, to translate and promote works written in less widely spoken languages to develop their distribution to larger markets in Europe and beyond.

Associated Partners
The project has four associated partners working in three languages. They support the main partners in the project with dedicated activities, such as a summer school for booksellers, seminars for librarians, or translation workshops. They also help promote the project and spread the word among their networks.
École de la Librarie
L'École de la Librairie, association créée en 1972, est l'organisme de formation de référence de la librairie. Elle forme environ 200 apprentis par an, 200 personnes en reconversion et 500 libraires en formation continue. L’École de la Librairie s’engage à fournir des formations et enseignements de qualité. Notre mission est de transmettre les fondamentaux du métier, et d'accompagner ses évolutions. L'École de la Librairie est partenaire de nombreuses institutions culturelles dans toute la France.
École de la Librarie
L'École de la Librairie, a charity founded in 1972, is the go-to training organisation for booksellers and bookshop owners. It trains around 200 apprentices each year, 200 people who are changing careers and supports 500 booksellers with on-going courses. L’École de la Librairie is committed to providing training and educational courses of great quality. The organisation’s mission is to share the essential knowledge of the career and to support its changes. L'École de la Librairie works in partnership with many cultural institutions across France.
Institut Ramon Llull
L'Institut Ramon Llull és l’organisme responsable de la projecció internacional de la llengua i la cultura catalanes. L’Institut representa una comunitat cultural i lingüística de més de deu milions de persones que participen de manera activa a través del món de la creació, la literatura i el coneixement en els principals debats i esdeveniments culturals a escala global. Creat el 2002, és un consorci format pel Govern de la Generalitat de Catalunya, el Govern de les Illes Balears, l’Ajuntament de Barcelona i l’Ajuntament de Palma. Els seus programes d’actuació es desenvolupen a través de l’Àrea de Llengua i Universitats, l’Àrea de Literatura, l’Àrea de Creació i el Programa d’innovació, coneixement i residències.
Institut Ramon Llull
The Institut Ramon Llull is the public institution responsible for promoting Catalan language and culture internationally. The Institut represents a cultural and linguistic community of more than 10 million people who participate actively in global events and conversations through performing arts, literature and knowledge exchange. The Institut is a consortium formed by the Government of Catalonia, the Government of the Balearic Islands, (eliminar and) Barcelona City Council and Palma City Council. It carries out its programming in the following areas: Language and Universities, Literature, Performing and Visual Arts, and the Programme for Innovation, Knowledge and Residencies.
Agence Régionale du Livre
Centre de ressources dédié au livre et à la lecture en Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, l’Agence oriente sa politique éditoriale sur les acteurs et activités en région et sur les thématiques professionnelle et institutionnelle au niveau national. Elle publie articles et dossiers, guides pratiques, offre de nombreux outils : site web, blog, annuaire et agenda en ligne, newsletter, revue du web Livre, comptes Facebook, Twitter et Linkedin.
Agence Régionale du Livre
A resource centre dedicated to books and reading in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, the Agence Régionale du Livre (ARL) points its editorial policies to activities taking place on a regional level, and to the professional and institutional programmes on a national level. The ARL publishes articles, factsheets, practical guides, and offers numerous tools: a website, a blog, an online directory and agenda, a newsletter, an online review ‘Livre’, and social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn).

Lietuvos kultūros institutas yra Lietuvos Respublikos kultūros ministerijos įsteigta biudžetinė įstaiga, savo veikla nuosekliai stiprinanti Lietuvos kultūros vaidmenį pasaulyje. Lietuvos kultūros institutas
The Lithuanian Culture Institute is a budgetary institution established by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, which is consistently strengthening the role of Lithuanian culture in the world. The Institute purposefully presents Lithuanian culture and professional art abroad and enhances the opportunities on the international scene for cultural professionals and artists, as well as for specialists and organisations working in these fields. The Lithuanian Culture Institute carries out its activities in accordance with the thematic, regional and geographical priorities outlined by the Ministry of Culture, in cooperation with Lithuanian and foreign cultural professionals and the Cultural Attachés of the Republic of Lithuania. The Lithuanian Culture Institute is assisted by the Board in planning its activities and evaluating its results.
The Lithuanian Culture Institute has been operating since 2008.
